Fall 2009 Report—Chapter 2
Exhibit 2.1—Managing the risks of toxic substances is an ongoing, integrated process
Exhibit 2.1 is a flow chart showing a four-step cycle about managing the risks of toxic substances.
Step 1: Conduct risk assessment to determine if substance is toxic.
Step 2: Develop risk management strategies for substances deemed toxic.
Step 3: Implement control measures and promote and/or enforce compliance with measures.
Step 4: Assess implementation of risk management strategy based on performance; consider new risk information.
Once step four is completed, the team can repeat the processes by conducting reassessment based on new risk information or adjust risk management strategies and actions by returning to steps two or three.
