What’s New in Environment and Sustainable Development

  • On 27 March 2013, David Willey, Director, will present an overview of the environmental petitions process at the Université de Sherbrooke. This is part of ongoing petitions outreach activities that, since February, will have seen David give seven presentations to environmental groups and universities in Saskatchewan, Quebec and Prince Edward Island.     Meetings—Toronto
  • On Monday, March 25, 2013 CESD Scott Vaughan, Clyde MacLellan, Assistant Auditor General and Jim McKenzie, Director are participating in a round table in Toronto with representatives from selected financial institutions. The meeting will cover topics such as how environmental factors like climate change are considered when making financial decisions; transparency and disclosure requirements surrounding environmental risks; and corporate social responsibility reporting.

  • On 21 March, 2013, CESD Scott Vaughan and the Interim CESD Neil Maxwell will meet members of the David Suzuki Foundation, Ecojustice Canada and the Fraser Basin Council in Vancouver. Concurrently, George Stuetz, Director, will present an overview of the role and activities of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia. Later that evening, Scott Vaughan will participate in an expert panel discussion, hosted by the Vancouver Aquarium, on the importance of marine protected areas in Canada.

  • On 19 March 2013, Scott Vaughan will be keynote speaker at a symposium organized by Massey College and the University of Toronto’s School of Public Policy and Governance, which will focus on the highlights of his fall 2012 report.
