Follow-up petition on the Adaptive Environmental Management Plan relating to Leitrim Wetland, Ontario

Petition: No. 100B

Issue(s): Biological diversity, compliance and enforcement, environmental assessment, fisheries, and water

Petitioner(s): A Canadian resident

Date Received: 15 June 2007

Status: Completed

Summary: This follow-up petition on development near the Leitrim Wetland focuses on compliance with the federal Fisheries Act. The petitioner alleges that, although the project was deemed unlikely to cause significant adverse environmental effects during the environmental assessment process, insufficient site monitoring required as part of the Adaptive Environmental Management Plan resulted in a number of Fisheries Act violations. The petitioner requests documents verifying compliance with the Act and expresses concern that the situation at Leitrim Wetland reflects a general failure of the Department to adequately monitor Adaptive Environmental Management Plans for projects affecting fish habitat.
