Expectations for the Sustainable Development Strategies

The Guide to Green Government was released by the federal government in 1995. The Guide sets out the government’s expectations for sustainable development strategies and provides initial objectives for departments and agencies to consider in their strategies and a common approach to preparing the strategies.

The Commissioner has published expectations of the sustainable development strategies:

• In April 2006, in a letter sent to deputy ministers and departmental heads, the Commissioner outlined expectations and guidance for the next round of sustainable development strategies.
• In 2003, Sustainable Development Strategies—Making a Difference (PDF) set out the Commissioner's expectations for the third round of sustainable development strategies, which were tabled in the House of Commons in February 2004.
• In 1999, Moving up the Learning Curve: The Second Generation of Sustainable Development Strategies, outlined the Commissioner’s expectations for the second round of sustainable development strategies, which were tabled in Parliament in 2001.
