Media Advisory—Auditor General Karen Hogan will be in Iqaluit on Tuesday 30 May 2023 for the tabling of 2 reports to the Nunavut Legislative Assembly

Ottawa, 19 May 2023—Auditor General Karen Hogan will be in Iqaluit on Tuesday 30 May 2023 to present a report on child and family services as well as a report on COVID‑19 vaccines to the Nunavut Legislative Assembly. Descriptions of the reports are provided below. Ms. Hogan will hold a news conference and be available for media interviews.

Access to embargoed copies of the reports

Journalists who wish to receive embargoed copies of the reports are invited to go to the boardroom of the Nunavut Research Institute. Upon arrival, they are required to sign an undertaking granting access to both the embargoed copies and the embargoed news conference described below. Experts will be available to answer questions about the reports.

Electronic embargoed copies of the reports will also be available for journalists who can’t or don’t wish to participate in person. Please email Infomedia@oag-bvg.gc.ca for further instructions. Registration for electronic copies must be completed before tabling day.

Embargoed news conference

Auditor  General Karen Hogan will hold an embargoed news conference in the boardroom of the Nunavut Research Institute. She will also be available afterward for individual interviews.

Release of the reports

The reports will be tabled by the Speaker of the Nunavut Legislative Assembly and made available on the Office of the Auditor General of Canada website.

Report descriptions

Child and Family Services in Nunavut. This audit examined whether the Department of Family Services and the Department of Health, with the support of the Department of Human Resources, provided services to protect and support the well-being of vulnerable children and youth and their families in accordance with legislation, policy, and program requirements over a period of January 2019 to 31 May 2022.

COVID-19 Vaccines in Nunavut. This audit examined whether the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Health, Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Department of Community and Government Services managed the COVID‑19 vaccine rollout in an effective and equitable manner to protect the health and well-being of Nunavummiut.
